Twelve armed group members were arrested and 38 weapons seized during joint security operations conducted in India’s Manipur and Mizoram states from September 7 to 13, according to a statement issued by the Indian Army on September 14.
The operations were carried out jointly by the Indian Army and Assam Rifles, along with the state police forces of Manipur and Mizoram and the Central Armed Police Forces.
The operations were conducted in Churachandpur, Imphal West, Chandel and Thoubal districts in Manipur, as well as Aizawl district in Mizoram, according to the statement.
In these areas, the joint forces conducted search and area-clearance operations based on intelligence inputs, resulting in the recovery of weapons and military-related equipment, the Indian Army said.
During the operations, 38 weapons, along with ammunition and other military equipment, were seized. Twelve members of armed groups were also arrested, according to the Indian Army.
The joint operations also disrupted illegal supply routes reportedly being used to transport weapons and military equipment in the areas, the statement said.
Manipur and Mizoram are among the northeastern Indian states bordering Myanmar. The areas remain a focus of Indian authorities in relation to border security and the activities of armed groups.
The latest operations covered several districts across the two states and formed part of ongoing efforts to control armed activities and the illegal distribution of weapons and military equipment.
The arrested individuals and seized weapons, ammunition and military equipment are being dealt with in accordance with relevant laws and legal procedures, the Indian Army said.
