Xi Jinping made the announcement at the 18th BRICS Summit, held in New Delhi, India, from September 12 to 13.

China will assume the BRICS chairmanship in 2027 and host the 19th BRICS Summit, according to statements issued by the Chinese government and the BRICS joint declaration.

Following Xi Jinping’s announcement, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Xi Jinping on China taking over the BRICS chairmanship in 2027.

Xi Jinping also said that China would work to build consensus on BRICS cooperation and prepare the agenda for the grouping’s activities in the coming year.

However, details regarding which city in China will host the 2027 BRICS Summit and the exact date of the summit have not yet been announced.

India hosted this year’s 18th BRICS Summit, which was attended by representatives from the 11 BRICS member countries and 10 partner countries. The summit focused on food, energy and commodity supply-chain security, trade, technology, and cooperation among Global South countries.
