ARAKAN, June 22, 2026 — The Arakan Army (AA) has distributed emergency food assistance to migrant workers and internally displaced persons (IDPs) currently taking refuge in Pang Hseng Township, an area administered by the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA).
The humanitarian relief, consisting of 67 bags of rice, was delivered on the morning of June 19 by the AA’s Fire Dragon Military Region. The distribution was coordinated locally through the Kachin Literature and Culture Association to reach vulnerable populations.
Pang Hseng has seen a significant influx of civilians seeking shelter since the launch of Operation 1027, alongside high volumes of internal migrants moving across the region in search of employment.
According to a representative from the Kachin Culture Association, the combined pressure of displacement and severe local job shortages has pushed many residents into extreme hardship. Speaking to the local Mongyu News Agency, she expressed gratitude for the provisions but highlighted that many families continue to struggle with basic food security and rising housing costs due to the lack of sustainable livelihoods.
The joint footprint of the AA and MNDAA in the area underscores the shifting dynamics of territorial control and the growing administrative roles assumed by ethnic resistance organizations amid Myanmar's ongoing conflict.
