Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman met with Qatar’s Minister of Labour, Dr. Ali bin Saeed bin Samikh Al Marri, in Doha to discuss expanding employment opportunities for Bangladeshi workers and protecting their labour rights, according to a statement issued by the Bangladesh Foreign Ministry on Wednesday.
The two ministers met during the Bangladesh foreign minister’s official visit to Qatar and discussed labour cooperation, workers’ welfare and protection as key areas of mutual interest.
They also discussed expanding employment opportunities in Qatar for Bangladeshi workers, including skilled and semi-skilled workers.
Qatar’s Labour Minister Dr. Al Marri praised the significant contributions of Bangladeshi workers to Qatar’s economy and development.
During the meeting, both sides pledged to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in the labour and manpower sectors.
For Bangladesh, expanding overseas employment opportunities and ensuring better protection of the labour rights of its citizens are important labour policy priorities. Cooperation with labour markets such as Qatar is expected to create new employment opportunities for Bangladeshi workers.
