Bangladesh Interim Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called on newspaper editors to present the government's achievements and public welfare initiatives in a balanced manner while continuing to offer constructive criticism of its policies and performance.
The Prime Minister said that fair coverage of the government's positive initiatives would help the public gain a better understanding of its policies, development programs, and efforts to improve people's lives.
He made the remarks on July 27 during a meeting with leaders of the National Editors Council at the Prime Minister’s Office inside the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka.
During the meeting, Tarique Rahman also sought the editors' cooperation in formulating a new policy framework aimed at supporting independent media and journalists, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the government and the press.
The meeting was attended by an eight-member delegation led by National Editors Council Convener and Jaijaidin Editor Shafik Rehman, along with Joint Convener and Amar Desh Editor Mahmudur Rahman.
Other participants included Pratidiner Bangladesh Editor Maruf Kamal Khan Sohel, Naya Diganta Editor Salah Uddin Muhammad Babar, Jugantor Editor Abdul Hai Shikdar, National Press Club President Hasan Hafiz, The Daily Waader Editor Shafiqul Alam, and Manabkantha Editor Shahidul Islam.
According to those present, the meeting also discussed strengthening cooperation between the government and the media, promoting policies that support press freedom, and ensuring balanced and accurate reporting in the public interest.
