Bangladeshi security forces have arrested an ARSA commander and a member of the armed group at a refugee camp in the Ukhiya area of Cox’s Bazar District, Bangladesh.
Members of the 14th Armed Police Battalion (APBN) conducted a raid in Camp No. 6 in Ukhiya Township on the night of August 19 and arrested ARSA commander Mohammad Alam, also known as Musa, 40, and ARSA member Abdul Hafez, 22, according to reports.
The raid was carried out by the 14th APBN at around 9 p.m., and the arrests were confirmed by Battalion Commander Mohammad Siraj Amin.
Prior to the latest arrests, on August 15, Bangladesh’s Special Police Unit also arrested former ARSA commander Nur Ahmad, who was wanted in connection with criminal activities.
The latest arrests came just five days after that incident, marking another detention of senior ARSA figures by Bangladeshi security forces.
As Bangladeshi security forces have intensified operations to strengthen security and maintain law and order in the refugee camps, ARSA’s ability to operate within the camps has reportedly been gradually restricted.
Amid these circumstances, security forces have continued to arrest ARSA members and individuals linked to the group.
