The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has reportedly developed an armed drone (Gun Drone/Armed Multirotor) equipped with a Type-56 assault rifle at its Frontier School of Surveillance and Drone Warfare.

The drone is equipped with a Type-56 rifle, as well as a thermal camera for target detection and surveillance.

The thermal camera enables the drone to detect heat-emitting people and objects in low-light and nighttime conditions, identify targets, and fire the mounted weapon, according to the information.

The technology could assist BGB personnel in conducting aerial surveillance and direct armed operations in remote border areas where movement on foot is difficult or where security risks are present.

Military and security forces around the world are developing and using drone technologies that combine surveillance capabilities with weapons systems. Turkey’s SONGAR armed drone is one example of such technology, incorporating an assault rifle and thermal/electro-optical (EO) sensors.

The BGB’s development of the armed drone demonstrates the growing use of drone technology in border surveillance and security operations.
