Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has opened two new Temporary Operating Bases (TOBs) in the Naikhongchhari border area of Bandarban District to enhance its border surveillance and operational capabilities along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border, according to reports.
The two TOBs have been established at Arachhatala Tila and Haturani Tila in the Ghumdhum Union border area.
On the morning of September 16, BGB Cox’s Bazar Regional Commander Brigadier General Kazi Shamsher Uddin officially inaugurated the two newly constructed Tactical Operating Bases (TOBs).
Following the inauguration, the regional commander inspected the buildings and support facilities at the two bases.
He then instructed the BGB personnel stationed at the bases to perform their border security duties with the highest level of vigilance, professionalism and competence.
Brigadier General Kazi Shamsher Uddin said the two newly constructed TOBs would help make BGB surveillance, intelligence gathering and patrol operations along the Myanmar border more effective.
He also said the new bases would strengthen BGB’s capacity to combat the illegal trafficking of drugs and goods, prevent unauthorized border crossings and ensure the security of people living in the border areas.
The regional commander further said the new bases would make it easier for BGB personnel to respond rapidly to any situation that may arise in the remote and challenging border areas.
The newly opened TOBs are located in the Naikhongchhari border area of Bandarban District, along the frontier with Myanmar.
Colonel Md. Anwar-ul-Alam, Commander of BGB’s Ramu Sector, Lieutenant Colonel SM Khairul Alam, Commander of the Cox’s Bazar Battalion (34 BGB), and other relevant officials attended the inauguration ceremony.
