Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) has seized 300 bags of urea fertilizer allegedly destined for Arakan through the Ukhiya border area of Cox’s Bazar district on September 6, according to reports.

The seizure took place on September 6 when BGB personnel stopped and searched a cargo truck at the Morichcha Joint Checkpost in Ukhiya Upazila. During the inspection, they reportedly found 300 bags of urea fertilizer inside the truck and seized them.

A trader was also arrested during the operation on suspicion of attempting to illegally transport the fertilizer, according to BGB.

Bangladeshi authorities have reportedly tightened inspections and enforcement against the movement of fertilizer and other goods allegedly destined for Arakan through border areas.

On the same day, September 6, the Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) also seized 160 bags of fertilizer in Bhola District that were allegedly being transported to Arakan.

Similarly, authorities seized 220 bags of fertilizer allegedly destined for Arakan on September 2 and another 410 bags on September 1, according to reports.

The repeated seizures indicate that Bangladeshi authorities have been increasing inspections and tightening controls over routes used to transport goods toward Arakan.
