Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the national flag carrier of Bangladesh, signed an agreement with European aircraft manufacturer Airbus on October 7 to purchase 10 aircraft, according to reports.

The agreement includes four A350-900 aircraft for long-haul international operations and six A321neo aircraft for regional and medium-haul routes.

According to Airbus, the aircraft will be used to modernise Biman’s fleet and expand its international route network. The A350-900 aircraft are intended to support long-haul routes, while the A321neo aircraft will provide greater flexibility for regional and medium-haul operations.

The agreement was signed at the Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden in Dhaka by Biman Chairman Rumee A. Hossain and Jürgen Westermeier, President and Managing Director of Airbus India and South Asia.

The signing ceremony, titled “Spreading Our Wings Together,” was attended by Bangladesh Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M. Rashiduzzaman Millat and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir, along with other government officials.

The aircraft are expected to be delivered under Biman’s long-term fleet expansion programme. While earlier plans indicated deliveries would begin around 2033, the Bangladesh government has requested Airbus to deliver at least one aircraft earlier, with the aviation minister seeking an initial delivery as early as the 2026-27 fiscal year.
