The Border Security Force (BSF) of India reportedly attempted to push around 14 to 16 Indian nationals into Bangladesh through the Gobindapur border area in Birampur Upazila of Dinajpur District, Bangladesh. However, they were forced to return to India following intervention by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local villagers.
The incident reportedly took place at around 11:00 pm on September 6 near Border Pillar No. 289/46 in the Gobindapur border area under Daudpur Border Outpost (BOP) in Katla Union.
According to the BGB, BSF personnel crossed the barbed-wire fence on the Indian side and attempted to push several Indian nationals into Bangladesh.
However, local villagers spotted the group as they attempted to enter Bangladesh and chased them away. After BGB personnel and local residents arrived at the scene, the BSF members were forced to take the individuals back to the Indian side.
Regarding the incident, Daudpur BOP Camp Commander Naib Subedar Mahabur Rahman said the BGB had successfully foiled the attempted push-in, with local villagers also assisting the border forces.
At present, BGB personnel, local villagers and members of the Ansar force are conducting patrols and maintaining vigilance in the border area to prevent further push-in attempts.
In addition, local men and women have been stationed at various village junctions near the border, some carrying sticks, while BGB personnel have been deployed at different border posts.
Due to heightened vigilance by local residents and increased security measures by the BGB, the attempted push-in was foiled, and the group reportedly returned to India in the early hours of Monday.
