Coalition of Resistance Forces Attacks Myanmar Military Transport Helicopter in Magway

A broad coalition of anti-junta resistance groups launched a coordinated attack on a military Mi-17 transport helicopter in Myanmar’s central Magway Region, according to a statement released by the Magway People's Defense Force (Magway PDF).

The incident occurred on June 23 as the aircraft attempted to land in Twin Ma, a village heavily fortified by the pro-junta Pyu Saw Htee militia in Myaing Township, Pakokku District. Local allied forces ambushed the helicopter with concentrated gunfire during its descent.

The operation highlights a highly coordinated effort among diverse revolutionary factions. Participating groups included the Magway PDF, Magway Federal Unit columns, the Bamar People's Liberation Army (BPLA), and the veteran All Burma Students' Democratic Front (ABSDF). They were supported by the KG Group, local township administration teams (PDO), and nearly a dozen district battalions.

As of Wednesday, the Magway PDF had not released specific details regarding casualties or the extent of the damage sustained by the Soviet-designed heavy-lift transport helicopter.
The Myanmar military regime has not yet issued an official statement regarding the clash. The escalation comes as resistance forces increasingly target the military’s air logistical networks, which the junta relies on heavily to resupply isolated outposts and pro-regime militias across rural Myanmar.
