Tourism-related business owners and workers have demanded that the travel ban on Sajek, a hill destination in Khagrachhari District of Bangladesh, be lifted within 24 hours.
They warned that if the restriction is not withdrawn within the stipulated period, they will launch continuous general strikes and road blockades across Khagrachhari District.
The demand was announced during a human chain protest held at Shapla Square in Khagrachhari town on Wednesday morning, October 14.
Business owners and workers from various sectors associated with the tourism industry took part in the protest. They called for guarantees of safety for tourists visiting Sajek and demanded the withdrawal of the travel ban.
Following the protest, participants marched to the Deputy Commissioner's Office and submitted a memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister through the Deputy Commissioner.
The memorandum called on the relevant authorities to resolve the issue as soon as possible to enable tourism activities in Sajek to resume and ensure that tourists can travel to the area safely.
