Dengue infections continue to rise across Bangladesh during the monsoon season, with a total of 1,118 patients currently receiving treatment in hospitals nationwide, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in a statement released on July 26.
The DGHS reported that 458 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country in the past 24 hours, while three more people died from the mosquito-borne disease during the same period.
As a result, the total number of dengue-related deaths recorded between January and late July 2026 has reached 43. During the same period, a total of 13,058 dengue patients have been hospitalized across the country.
Of the 43 fatalities, 25 were women and 18 were men. Among them, 15 deaths were reported in the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) area, six in the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) area, and one in areas outside the Dhaka city corporation.
The DGHS also reported five deaths in Mymensingh, six in Khulna, four in Chattogram, four in Barishal, one in Rajshahi, and one in Rangpur.
Health authorities have urged the public to eliminate stagnant water where mosquitoes can breed, use mosquito nets and other protective measures to avoid mosquito bites, and seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms such as fever, headache, body aches, or other signs of dengue infection.
