Five local residents, including two children, were killed and 17 others injured when the Myanmar military junta carried out an aerial bombardment of Sein Nyaung Wa Village in Paletwa Township, Paletwa District, Chin State, on August 24, according to reports.
The junta carried out the airstrike on Sein Nyaung Wa Village from approximately 11:09 a.m. to 11:16 a.m. on August 24 using two fighter jets. A total of 11 bombs were reportedly dropped, including two 500-pound bombs, one 300-pound bomb and eight rocket bombs.
Those killed in the airstrike were one-year-old Maung Htet Myat Kyaw, 10-year-old Maung Myat Kyaw Naing, 36-year-old Ma Than Win, 46-year-old Daw Khine Khine Soe and 71-year-old Daw Thandar Phyu.
Among the 17 injured were nine children between the ages of four and 13. The remaining injured victims were between 29 and 97 years old.
The injured were identified as Ko Phyo Khant, May Thawtar, Khine Aye San, Min Myat Thu, Khine Lin Hein, Naing Lin Soe, Nay Paing Phyo, Htay Htay Soe, San Aye May, Naing Naing Soe, U Tin Tun, Chit Su Wai, Shwe Yin Oo, Hla Than Win, Daw Wai Toe Ma, Win Mya Oo and Daw Maung Mya Sein.
The airstrike also destroyed a Buddhist monastery’s Dhamma hall, an ordination hall, a Sabbath building, nine residential houses and one rice barn, according to reports.
The injured residents have reportedly been urgently transported to nearby hospitals to receive medical treatment.
