A five-year-old muslim child reportedly died on the night of September 28 at Camp 2 East, one of the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, according to sources inside the camp.

According to Rohingya Khobor, the deceased child was Mohammed Omair, the son of Mohammed Hassan and Shabnur. The incident reportedly occurred at around 9 p.m. on September 28 in the C-6 area of Camp 2 East, according to camp sources.

Sources said the child sustained severe injuries to the neck and died as a result of those injuries. The incident reportedly occurred while the child’s mother was away.

Camp sources identified the alleged perpetrator as Feros Mia, the child’s mother’s husband. He is reportedly a Bangladeshi national from the local area and works as a Jalmuri vendor, according to the report.

Following the incident, the alleged perpetrator reportedly fled the scene, and his current whereabouts could not be independently confirmed.

However, the exact cause of the child’s death, the circumstances surrounding the incident, and the alleged motive still require independent investigation and verification by the relevant authorities.

Security concerns for children and residents in the Muslim refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar remain a matter of concern. Further investigation and official confirmation regarding the incident are awaited.
