Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has no chance of returning to the country, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir said on September 29.

Responding to reporters’ questions about Hasina and her son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, planning to participate virtually in a news conference to be held in London, Kobir said the event was not being organised by the UK government.

Kobir also criticised Hasina’s planned virtual participation in the London event from India, describing it as a “meaningless activity.”

Regarding Sheikh Hasina’s political future, he said those who have left the country or were forced to leave have very little opportunity to return.

Kobir also alleged that during Sheikh Hasina’s 15-year rule, people were persecuted and various state institutions were damaged. He further alleged that her family members and party leaders misused the country’s resources.

The Bangladesh government has previously said that it is continuing diplomatic and legal efforts to bring Hasina back from India.
