A 40-year-old man has been sentenced to a total of 60 years in prison for raping two six-year-old girls in Bogura, Bangladesh, with a court delivering the verdict on October 8, according to reports.
The convicted man, Nur Islam, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for each of the two cases by a special tribunal for the prevention of violence against children in Bogura. As the sentences are to be served consecutively, he will spend a total of 60 years in prison.
The court also ordered him to pay a fine of Tk 50,000 for each case, amounting to Tk 100,000 in total. The money is to be handed over to the families of the two girls.
According to the prosecution, on March 12, 2025, Nur Islam lured the two girls to his home in the Arolia Ashrayan area of Kahalu Upazila by offering them food and money before raping them. He allegedly threatened to kill them if they told anyone about the incident, the prosecution said.
The families learned about the incident on March 13, after one of the girls developed a fever and the other showed signs of excessive bleeding. Subsequently, the mother of one of the girls filed a complaint at Kahalu Police Station.
Police rescued the two girls and took them to a hospital for treatment. Nur Islam was later arrested in cooperation with the district detective branch, according to the report.
