Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police have jointly seized 868 grams of heroin worth approximately ₹6.51 crore (equivalent to billions of Myanmar kyats) during a security operation in Mizoram, India, according to the Assam Rifles.
The joint operation was conducted on August 13 in Keifang, Saitual district, where security personnel carried out a detailed inspection of an Ashok Leyland truck and discovered the drugs.
The heroin was reportedly concealed inside a modified and sealed toolbox installed in the truck.
Two individuals were arrested in connection with the seizure and handed over to Saitual Police for further legal action, the Assam Rifles said.
Mizoram shares a border with Myanmar and is one of the areas in northeastern India where security forces maintain heightened surveillance over drug trafficking. In particular, Assam Rifles and state police frequently conduct joint operations in border areas to prevent the movement of narcotics from Myanmar.
Northeastern India is connected to regional drug trafficking routes due to its proximity to Myanmar, and drug seizures are frequently reported in the region. In this latest case, the suspects allegedly attempted to conceal the narcotics inside the vehicle, but security personnel discovered them during a detailed inspection.
