Fourteen men identified as Myanmar junta personnel reportedly surrendered themselves to the Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) at the Ali Kadam border in Bandarban District, Bangladesh, on August 18, according to a BGB statement.
The 14 Myanmar nationals, of different ages, voluntarily arrived at the Trilay Para checkpoint under Ali Kadam Battalion (57 BGB), where they were taken into BGB custody and subjected to preliminary questioning.
According to the BGB’s interrogation, all 14 were members of the Myanmar junta forces.
The BGB initiated legal proceedings against them under Bangladesh’s existing laws and the Foreigners Act for illegally crossing the border and entering Bangladesh. They were subsequently handed over to the Ali Kadam Police Station on August 19 for further legal action.
The incident is the latest reported case involving Myanmar junta personnel entering Bangladesh from the Myanmar-Bangladesh border area.
The BGB has stated that it continues to maintain heightened security along the border to ensure border security, prevent illegal crossings, and protect Bangladesh’s sovereignty.
