The Sajek Karbari Association and the Sajek Public Rights Protection Committee have announced an indefinite blockade of the tourist road in Sajek, in Bangladesh’s Chittagong Hill Tracts, starting at 6:00 a.m. on October 11. The blockade is intended to demand the removal of armed members of the Santu Larma faction of the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS) from the area.

The announcement was made in a joint statement on October 10 by Nutan Joy Chakma, president of the Sajek Karbari Association, and Babudhan Chakma, convener of the Sajek Public Rights Protection Committee.

At a public gathering held at Ujjo Bazar in Sajek on October 8, the two organizations issued a 48-hour ultimatum demanding the removal of armed members of the JSS Santu Larma faction from the area. As the members had not been withdrawn within the stipulated period, the organizations decided to launch the road blockade.

In their joint statement, the organizations alleged that the government and the military had failed to take effective measures to remove the armed members. They also accused the military of harassing local residents under the pretext of searching homes and threatening prominent community members.
