Six civilians were injured and one house was damaged after a military council navy vessel fired artillery shells at Kyeintali Town and Seik Taing Kwin Village in Gwa Township, Thandwe District, Arakan, on the morning of July 8, according to local sources.
The injured civilians were identified as Ma Yadanar Htun (5), Daw Mya Thar (45), Daw Than May (74), U Nyo Tun (48), Ma Thin Thiri Htun (17), and Daw Mi Wine (50), all from Ward No. (3), Kyeintali Town.
The navy vessel reportedly fired at least 20 artillery shells into Ward No. (3) of Kyeintali Town and Seik Taing Kwin Village between 5:50 a.m. and 9:33 a.m. on July 8.
As a result of the shelling, at around 9:20 a.m., one artillery shell struck and exploded on the house of Ma Thar, daughter of U Pho Seit, on Thazin Street in Ward No. (3), Kyeintali Town. Another artillery shell landed and exploded near a tree behind the house of Pai Soe Aung, son of U Thein Win, on Nhin Si Street.
The artillery strikes injured six civilians in the surrounding area and caused damage to one house.
The injured victims are currently receiving medical treatment at nearby hospitals and clinics, according to reports.
Local sources also confirmed that some artillery shells fired by the navy vessel landed in the direction of Seik Taing Kwin Village, but exploded on a hill near the village.
