The Military Council carried out consecutive airstrikes on the towns of Mae, Thandwe, and Ponnagyun in Arakan within a single day, killing five civilians and injuring a total of 26 people, including three Buddhist monks, according to a statement issued by the Arakan Army (AA) on July 19.
According to the AA statement, the Military Council conducted successive airstrikes targeting civilian residential areas throughout the day on July 19.
At around 11:30 a.m., a Military Council fighter jet dropped three 300-pound bombs on Wards 2 and 3 of Mae Town in Taungup Township, the AA said.
The attack killed five civilians and injured 22 others, including one Buddhist monk and children.
The AA also reported that one Christian church and 20 residential houses were damaged in the attack.
Similarly, between 4:06 p.m. and 4:24 p.m. on the same day, the Military Council carried out five separate bombing raids on Thandwe using fighter jets and also opened fire with machine guns. Four civilians were injured, and several residential houses were damaged.
In addition, at around 6:30 p.m., a Military Council fighter jet dropped two 300-pound bombs near Taungpok Monastery, located at the junction of Taungpok Village and Yae Pauk Chaung in Ponnagyun Township.
The attack injured two Buddhist monks and one civilian, according to the statement.
The AA stated that the Military Council's latest actions clearly demonstrate that its actions are inconsistent with its statements regarding peace appeals and dialogue during the 100-day period.
The AA also said that the entire Arakanese population and allied organizations would cooperate in responding to and taking action against the Military Council's airstrikes.
