A local news report has identified three more individuals allegedly involved in a network smuggling illegal arms and ammunition through the Panchhari border area in Khagrachhari District, Bangladesh.
The report alleges that Samatpriya Chakma, a senior leader of the JSS (Santu Larma faction), is behind the operation.
According to the report, Mithun Chakma, alias Raju; Rupel Chakma, alias Sumentu; and Sanjay Chakma allegedly obtain illegal arms and ammunition from the Indian states of Mizoram and Nagaland and transport them to secret weapons storage facilities belonging to the JSS.
On October 18, a report circulated on social media claiming that the JSS (Santu Larma faction) had handed over an AK-47 rifle and 100 rounds of ammunition to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in the Panchhari area.
The latest allegations concerning arms smuggling along the Panchhari border could heighten concerns over border security. However, no official statement from the relevant authorities or independent confirmation of the allegations has been identified.
