Myanmar's military junta launched a series of airstrikes on the Ngapali beach area in Thandwe Township, Arakan State, on the morning of August 3, using fighter jets and Y-12 bomber aircraft. The attacks injured two civilians and damaged several homes and other buildings, according to local sources.
Sources said that between 10:25 a.m. and 10:40 a.m., the military carried out four fighter jet strikes and also deployed a Y-12 bomber aircraft, dropping a total of 58 bombs on Gyeiktaw Ward and areas along the Ngapali coastline.
During the bombardment, two civilians from Ward No. 9 in Gyeiktaw were injured. The attacks also damaged five residential houses and one bungalow building. The injured victims are reportedly receiving emergency medical treatment.
The latest attack came just days after another airstrike on July 31, when the junta dropped three bombs on Shwe Hlay village in Thandwe Township, killing four civilians and injuring two others, including a child, according to local sources.
Residents said the military has continued to carry out frequent airstrikes on civilian-populated towns and villages across Arakan State, resulting in a growing number of civilian deaths and injuries.
Local sources also reported that the junta, facing mounting military pressure in the Kyaukphyu frontline where it is engaged in fighting with the Arakan Army (AA), has increasingly targeted roads and bridges connecting Kyaukphyu Township with other areas, causing further disruption to transportation and civilian movement.
