ULA/AA Provides Emergency Aid and Medical Care to Flood-Affected Muslim Villages in Maungdaw

The United League of Arakan/Arakan Army (ULA/AA) has delivered emergency food assistance and medical support to residents of two flood-affected Muslim villages in Maungdaw Township, northern Arakan State, following severe flooding triggered by days of heavy rainfall, AB News reported.

According to AB News, the villages of Archit Kyar and Abu Ja were inundated after continuous rain beginning on July 5, with floodwaters damaging homes and disrupting daily life.

Local data cited by AB News showed that Archit Kyar Village is home to 26 households and 152 residents, while Abu Ja Village has 15 households and 229 residents.

As part of the relief effort, ULA/AA distributed essential food supplies, including rice, cooking oil, salt, chili peppers, and other basic commodities, to families affected by the flooding.

The group also provided medical examinations, treatment for residents in poor health, and essential medicines, according to the report.

Flood-affected residents expressed gratitude for the assistance. One Muslim resident told AB News that the support had eased some of the hardship faced by families whose homes had been flooded and who were struggling to secure food.

AB News reported that at least seven townships across Arakan State have experienced widespread flooding since July 7 due to heavy rainfall and runoff from surrounding hills.

The flooding damaged homes, roads, bridges, and agricultural land, significantly affecting transportation and the daily lives of local communities.

Although floodwaters began receding in some areas from July 12, AB News said many affected communities continue to require urgent humanitarian assistance, including food, safe drinking water, healthcare, and other emergency relief support.
