Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held talks with a 50-member US business delegation from the US-Bangladesh Business Council, focusing on increasing US investment in Bangladesh and creating new employment opportunities.

The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s Office on Thursday morning, also discussed ways to increase foreign investment, accelerate economic growth, and further strengthen the longstanding trade and economic ties between Bangladesh and the United States, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.

PMO Spokesperson Mahdi Amin described the meeting as highly productive and effective, saying detailed discussions were held on how the US private sector could play a greater role in Bangladesh’s economic development.

US businesses expressed interest in helping accelerate Bangladesh’s economic growth by creating new jobs, according to the PMO.

US-Bangladesh Business Council President Atul Keshap said US companies were proud to be among Bangladesh’s largest foreign investment partners and expressed confidence in the country’s economic potential.

Referring to the Bangladesh government’s goal of turning the country into a $1 trillion economy by 2034, Keshap said the US private sector could play an important role by bringing technology, global experience and capital to support economic growth and improve people’s welfare.

He said US companies have built business partnerships in Bangladesh over several decades and have contributed to job creation, government revenue generation and overall economic development.

Keshap said the positive messages from the meeting would be shared with US companies and the wider American business community.

Senior executives from leading US companies, including Chevron, Meta, Visa, MetLife, Boeing, Uber, Cisco, Abbott, HSBC Bank and Standard Chartered Bank, attended the meeting.

The meeting is expected to contribute to strengthening economic cooperation between Bangladesh and the United States as interest from the US business community grows in Bangladesh’s investment environment, job creation and economic development.
