The United States has provided $2.4 million worth of medical equipment and supplies to Bangladesh to improve maternal, newborn and child healthcare services across the country, the US Embassy said.
As part of the assistance programme, US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T Christensen presented maternal and newborn care training models to Panchagarh District Civil Surgeon Dr Md Mizanur Rahman at Panchagarh District Hospital.
The US assistance includes newborn warmers, breathing equipment, therapeutic food for severely malnourished children, and supplies designed to maintain the effectiveness of vaccines, according to the embassy.
The equipment and supplies are being distributed to hospitals and health centres across Bangladesh, including hard-to-reach areas, through US-funded partners FHI 360, Jhpiego, JSI and UNICEF.
According to the US Embassy, the assistance is aimed at strengthening Bangladesh’s healthcare system and expanding access to quality maternal, newborn and child healthcare services nationwide.
The embassy also said the assistance contributes to the implementation of the “America First Global Health Strategy” through practical partnerships aimed at strengthening health systems and promoting US health technology and innovation.
“The United States remains committed to working with the Government of Bangladesh to expand access to quality healthcare nationwide,” the US Embassy said.
