The Arakan Coast Guard Security Force has detained seven Bangladeshi fishermen and seized two fishing vessels after they were allegedly found fishing illegally inside Arakan territorial waters, according to local sources.
The arrests were made on June 15 during a routine maritime patrol operation. Security personnel reportedly detected four fishing boats operating approximately 500 meters off the Arakan coastline and launched an interception mission.
At around 8:55 a.m., coast guard personnel detained a fishing boat carrying four Bangladeshi fishermen approximately 570 meters from shore. A second motorized fishing vessel carrying three additional fishermen was intercepted about five minutes later, roughly 620 meters off the coast, according to the report.
Local sources said two other fishing boats managed to evade capture by fleeing toward Bangladeshi territorial waters before security forces could intercept them.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and are reportedly preparing legal proceedings against the seven detained fishermen in accordance with applicable maritime and fisheries regulations.
