The number of civilian casualties and injuries has risen over the past six months in Arakan State due to targeted attacks by the Military Commission on civilians and residential buildings, according to a June 3 statement by the Humanitarian and Development Cooperation Office (HDCO).
According to HDCO's report, during the six-month period from January to June 2026, attacks by the Military Commission killed 83 innocent civilians, severely injured 187 others, and led to the arbitrary detention of 65 people.
The statement noted that from July 1 to July 3, intense airstrikes by the Military Commission forces continued relentlessly within the Arakan region.
As a result of these continuous airstrikes by the Military Commission, civilians are suffering casualties, and there is increasing damage to homes, buildings, and religious and educational infrastructure.
HDCO assessed that if these airstrikes do not stop and continue at this rate, the resulting civilian casualty rates and the displacement of local residents fleeing their homes will escalate even further.
Consequently, HDCO has called on the international community to take effective action to stop the attacks on civilians, protect the lives and property of the people, and ensure that humanitarian aid can reach those in distress immediately and without obstacles.
