The Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) seized a boat carrying cement and fertilizer intended for export from Bangladesh to Arakan on July 4, according to an official BCG statement released on July 5.
During a joint operation conducted by the BCG and the police, authorities intercepted a boat near Lata Khali Port in the North Sankuchiya area of Manpura Upazila, Bangladesh. According to BCG Deputy Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan, the vessel, carrying one trader, was transporting 450 bags of cement and four bags of DAP fertilizer with an estimated value of approximately 229,000 Bangladeshi taka, allegedly intended for shipment to Arakan.
Authorities said the seized goods, the boat, and the detained trader have been handed over to Manpura Police Station for further legal proceedings.
Earlier, on July 2, the BCG also arrested five Muslim traders who were transporting more than 600 bags of cement to Arakan through the Patenga area of Chattogram, Bangladesh.
Similarly, on June 26, the Bangladesh Navy reportedly intercepted and seized two boats carrying 21 traders who were transporting cement bags from Bangladesh to Arakan.
