Arakan — June 25, 2026 - The death toll from a Myanmar military airstrike on Kyauktaw Town in Arakan Region has risen to 10 after an injured civilian died from severe wounds, local sources reported.
The latest victim was identified as U Hla Aung Kyaw, 65, a resident of Kya Ta (3) Road in Kyauktaw. He succumbed to his injuries at around 9:00 AM on June 24 after suffering severe trauma during the aerial attack, including fractures to both arms and shrapnel wounds.
The man was among 18 civilians initially reported injured following the airstrike. With his death, the number of fatalities has increased to 10, including a child and an elderly person.
The attack took place on June 17 at around 3:00 PM, when the Myanmar military deployed four fighter jets to bombard residential areas of Kyauktaw Town, public locations in Lanmadaw Village, a local clinic, and a temporary market.
The strike caused widespread destruction, damaging residential homes, a clinic, a temporary market area, and other civilian infrastructure. The total value of property losses is estimated to exceed 250 million Myanmar kyats.
Local sources said the casualties and destruction occurred in areas where civilians were living and gathering, raising renewed concerns over the impact of aerial attacks on non-combatant communities in Myanmar’s ongoing conflict.
