Five Bangladeshi fishermen have been detained by the Arakan Coast Guard after allegedly entering Arakan territorial waters illegally and engaging in fishing activities, according to local reports.
The incident occurred on June 28, when Arakan Coast Guard personnel reportedly spotted a suspicious fishing boat operating in the sea area between Kyauk Pandu and Gyin Taw villages in Maungdaw Township.
Authorities said they attempted to inspect the vessel, but the boat allegedly refused to stop and fled. The Coast Guard later pursued the vessel and intercepted it at around 1:40 p.m. The boat, carrying five Bangladeshi nationals, was seized approximately 2.7 kilometers southwest of the Gyin Taw Creek mouth.
The detained fishermen and the seized fishing boat are currently undergoing investigation under relevant legal procedures, according to officials.
The latest arrest follows a similar incident on June 15, when the Arakan Coast Guard detained seven Bangladeshi fishermen accused of illegally entering Arakan’s territorial waters and conducting fishing activities.
