Maungdaw Airstrike Kills 4, Including a Captured Captain

An airstrike by the Military Council forces on a prison holding prisoners of war (POWs) in Kyein Chaung, Maungdaw Township, Rakhine State, has killed four people, including a captured military captain.

Yesterday, July 2, at around 3:00 PM, two Military Council jet fighters dropped six 500-lb bombs on the Kyein Chaung POW detention facility. Additionally, a Y-12 transport aircraft conducted five bombing runs, dropping nearly 30 bombs in total during the attack.

According to sources, the airstrike resulted in the immediate deaths of four individuals, including a captured captain who had been assigned to provide medical treatment to the detainees. Several prison buildings were also destroyed.

Similarly, late at night on July 1, at around 10:00 PM, the Military Council forces carried out coordinated airstrikes on Maungdaw town and its surrounding areas. During that attack, over 10 bombs exploded near the Maungdaw town entrance arch, around the 3-mile area along the highway, and near the No. 5 Border Guard Police Battalion (Na Kha Kha 5).

Analysts suggest that alongside the airstrikes in Maungdaw and Buthidaung townships, there may be an understanding and tactical cooperation between the Military Council and ARSA (Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army).

While the Military Council attacks from the air, ARSA is reportedly attempting to regain a foothold on the ground. Furthermore, there has been growing criticism regarding the silence of certain human rights activists regarding these developments.
