Myanmar Military Conducts Airstrikes Near Youth School in Strategic Border Town of Maungdaw

The Myanmar Air Force carried out an airstrike on Wednesday morning, dropping two bombs near a youth development school in the strategic western border town of Maungdaw, local sources reported.

The attack occurred at approximately 11:40 AM local time near the Border Youth Development School. Details regarding casualties and the extent of infrastructural damage are still emerging as local rescue teams assess the site.

Maungdaw, situated in northern Rakhine (Arakan) State along the Bangladesh border, has been a focal point of intense fighting as ethnic resistance forces continue to squeeze remaining junta positions in the region.

The strike follows a devastating aerial campaign just a week prior. On June 17, a formation of four military jet fighters launched a sustained, hour-long bombardment on Kyauktaw, another major town in the state. That attack targeted densely populated residential wards, a local clinic, and a temporary market in Lanmadaw Village, resulting in at least 9 civilian deaths and leaving 18 others injured.

The ruling military junta has increasingly relied on its air superiority to counter ground territorial losses across Myanmar, drew sharp criticism from international rights monitors for the rising toll of civilian casualties in non-combat zones.
