Myanmar's military reportedly carried out a new wave of airstrikes on Gwa Township in Arakan on the night of July 13, despite the area being severely affected by ongoing flooding caused by days of heavy rainfall.
According to local sources, the attacks occurred between 10:00 p.m. and 10:55 p.m., during which military fighter jets and Y-12 transport aircraft reportedly dropped more than 50 bombs across several locations in the township.
The fighter jets reportedly conducted four bombing runs at around 10:00 p.m., 10:02 p.m., 10:06 p.m., and 10:15 p.m., while Y-12 aircraft carried out six additional bombing runs between 10:22 p.m. and 10:55 p.m.
The bombs reportedly landed in areas near farmland north of Kwin Lyar Shay Village, west of Yahaing Kwin Village, and east of Kyaung Kone Village, as well as at several locations inside nearby villages.
Local sources said two unexploded bombs landed near the home of a resident identified as U Nyi in Kyaung Kone Village, with one striking the house directly. Although neither bomb detonated, the impact caused damage to the building.
The extent of civilian casualties from the latest airstrikes has not yet been confirmed.
The latest attack follows another airstrike on July 10, when Myanmar military aircraft reportedly bombed Kular Chaung Village and a school in Pauk Tu Village, located in the Dhani village tract of Gwa Township. According to local reports, four civilians were killed and one other was seriously injured in Kular Chaung Village, while the school and seven houses in Pauk Tu Village were damaged.
