Six Civilians, Including Child, Injured in Myanmar Navy Shelling Along Gwa Coast, ULA/AA Says

Six civilians, including a five-year-old child, were injured after the Myanmar military junta's navy allegedly shelled coastal areas of Gwa Township in Arakan (Rakhine) State on July 8, according to a statement released by the United League of Arakan/Arakan Army (ULA/AA) on July 11.

The ULA/AA said four Myanmar Navy vessels were operating along the Gwa coastline and the Boe Mi coastal area in Myanmar's Ayeyarwady Region on the day of the incident. During the operation, the naval vessels reportedly fired at least 87 artillery rounds toward the Gwa coast.

According to the statement, the shelling injured six residents from Ward No. 3 of Kyeintali Town in Gwa Township. The injured were identified as Daw Ma Htar, 45; Daw Than May, 74; Ma Yadanar Htun, 5; U Nyo Htun, 48; Ma Thinn Thiri Htun, 17; and Daw Mi Wine, 50. Several homes were also reportedly damaged by shell fragments.

The ULA/AA also alleged that the Myanmar military carried out two separate airstrikes on Gwa Township using two fighter jets on July 7.

The reported attacks took place as Arakan State continues to face widespread flooding. Local residents quoted in the statement described the military's continued attacks during the humanitarian crisis as inhumane.

Despite reduced frontline clashes in some areas, reports indicate that the Myanmar military has continued striking civilian-populated locations across Arakan, resulting in civilian casualties and damage to residential properties.
