The United League of Arakan/Arakan Army (ULA/AA) has launched emergency rescue and relief operations for residents affected by severe flooding in Buthidaung Township after days of heavy rainfall inundated villages, submerged major roads, and disrupted transportation across the area.
According to local sources, rapidly rising river levels and runoff from surrounding hills have flooded numerous low-lying villages, leaving many residents stranded and facing shortages of food, clean drinking water, and other basic necessities.
The flooding has further worsened conditions for local communities that were already recovering from the impact of recent Myanmar military airstrikes. Residents are now dealing with both the aftermath of the attacks and the ongoing flood emergency.
ULA/AA rescue teams, together with local civil administration officials, have been deployed to the affected areas to evacuate stranded civilians and provide emergency assistance. Elderly people, children, and families trapped by floodwaters are being transported by motorboats and small boats to temporary shelters, evacuation centers, and religious buildings.
Relief teams are also distributing essential supplies, including rice, cooking oil, salt, and other food items, as well as tarpaulins and temporary shelter materials to meet the immediate needs of displaced residents.
The rescue operations follow similar flood response efforts carried out by ULA/AA in recent days. On July 11, teams evacuated residents from flood-affected villages in Ponnagyun Township, while on July 9 and 10, emergency rescue and relief operations were conducted in Kyauktaw, Mrauk-U, and Minbya townships.
With heavy rainfall expected to continue, authorities have warned that river levels across Arakan could rise further. Residents living in low-lying and riverbank areas, particularly in Buthidaung Township, have been urged to prepare for possible flooding and landslides.
Officials have also advised the public to use clean drinking water, maintain food hygiene, and follow health precautions to reduce the risk of waterborne diseases after the floods. Residents have been urged to closely follow emergency instructions issued by ULA/AA's local administrative authorities and rescue teams.
